The top websites for budget friendly wedding dresses may surprise you.
According to The Knot, the average wedding dress costs $1,631! Add in accessories at about $250 and you can easily spend close to $2000 for your big day attire.
Maybe you’re like me and you can imagine spending so much on a dress for one day. Maybe you’re on a budget and want to keep your wedding costs down. Either way, cutting costs by shopping for your wedding dress online does not mean you will sacrifice on style.
My total budget for my dress and accessories was under $500. I came in way under budget!
Shopping Tips
Shopping online for a wedding dress can be tricky. All that glitters is not gold. You want to be sure you’re getting a beautiful dress and a good deal. These are my recommendations for shopping for inexpensive wedding dresses.
Give it time
Order your dress online 3 months or more before your wedding day. You will want to take shipping timelines into consideration. The dress seller may be located in a different country and not local to you.
Measure, measure, measure
I recommend measuring yourself and having someone else measure you as well. Use the sellers size chart! Do not assume because you wear X size in your regular clothes you will wear the same size in a wedding dress.
Since I did go to traditional wedding dress shops before buying online, I had experience with wedding dress sizes and knew I would need to go a size or two up.
Find reviews!
The best place to get an idea of how the dress looks in real life is google the vendor you are interested in + review. For example, you could google Davids Bridal + reviews. You might find reviews on the website, blog posts or even YouTube reviews.
I even did a YouTube review on my own wedding dress!

Wedding Dress Accessories
You can make your wedding dress look great with inexpensive accessories. Don’t think you will need to buy these at the bridal shop either.
There are affordable alternatives online as well! I saved so much money by purchasing all of my accessories online.
This is the way I was able to spend less than $500 dollars on my entire wedding day outfit.
Petticoat/Shapewear– This is the only item I did not purchase online. My special circumstance for this is that I am tall (5’8″) and the petticoat I ordered from Amazon was too short. I just did not look right under my wedding dress and did not even touch my shoes. The petticoat I purchased from David’s Bridal did cost me 79.95 and you can check it out here.
If you want to check out affordable petticoats on Amazon, there are many styles available online. They may work out for you! The good news is that if they don’t, returns are free using Amazon Prime.
Veil– With veils running into the 200 range, it can be hard to purchase a piece of fabric that costs that much. You can look online for the veil of your dreams that won’t cost a pretty penny. This is the exact veil I purchased, but there are tons of options for you.
Here are other gorgeous options on Etsy and they start at just $25!
Shoes– The shoes you pick to go with your wedding dress are just as big a deal as your dress. If you are looking online try DSW or Amazon!
These are my shoes from the wedding ceremony:
I like Nina brand shoes, they make great dress sandals for formal occasions. I see them in department stores like Macys all the time, but I take note of the styles I like and purchase them online for the best price.
Wedding Dress Belt-This can really take your wedding dress look up a notch. They can add a bit of sparkle to your wedding dress. With wedding dress belts costing anywhere from 50-100 dollars, it’s easy to fall in love with an expensive wedding dress belt. I purchased my belt online, within budget. It was everything I needed it to be! I felt the quality of the belt was great, it was solid and well constructed and well under 40 dollars.
Tiara or headpiece– If you choose to glam your hair up with a tiara or hair barrette, headband, you can find a lot off affordable beautiful pieces online. The exact tiara I purchased is no longer available but there are super other options available.
This bohemian style headpiece is classically simple but still sparkly and would work with a variety of hairstyles.
Jewelry– If the thought of costume jewelry doesn’t bother you, then you can get your wedding day jewelry online from a variety of retailers. I purchased this set because it was just what I was looking for. If you have your own jewelry that is sentimental or looks great already then go ahead and wear that!
I hope now you know that there are many options for finding inexpensive wedding dresses. In fact, there are many options for you to find wedding dresses under 200 dollars.
