Gymnastics is a fun and challenging sport that can help toddlers develop strength, coordination, and flexibility. But what should you wear to gymnastics?
When it comes to gymnastics, there is no one right answer. However, there are some general guidelines that can help you decide what to wear.
First, your child should always be comfortable. If your toddler is feeling uncomfortable, he or she will not be able to focus on their performance.
Second, you should choose clothes that will protect them from the equipment and other participants.
Finally, make sure that their clothes are stylish and age-appropriate.
Gymnastic Clothing For Toddlers
Clothing for gymnastics can include leotards and tights, as well as headbands and hair ties to protect their hair.
There are a few things that you need to take into consideration when purchasing a gymnastics leotard for your toddler. First, you need to make sure that the leotard is comfortable.
Second, you want to make sure that the leotard is snug enough so that it doesn’t move around while your toddler is performing exercises.
And finally, you want to make sure that the leotard is durable so that it can withstand some tough falls.
Some popular styles include sleeveless/ short-sleeved leotards and long-sleeved leotards as well the shorts or “biketard” version. The latter is good if you don’t want underwear hanging out or your toddler is still wearing a diaper or pull-up.
Your gym will offer some leotard options to buy, but they are also readily available online! I purchased two leotard options for a great price ahead of time by shopping online.
Here are some recommendations, there are all kinds of options depending on what your little one likes!
If you prefer a sleeveless leotard with bike short style bottom that offer more coverage, here are some affordable highly rated options:
2. Sparkle short bottom colorblock leotard
3. Snowflake design bike short leotard
If you are looking for a traditional underwear style bottom leotard there are plenty to choose from! Here a couple of suggestions to get you started:
3. Colorful star print leotard
If your toddler needs a leotard with long sleeves, there are a couple of options here as well!
2. Unicorn print long sleeved leotard
3. Leopard print long sleeve leotard for toddlers
Tights are a great option for this age group as well. You can choose tights in a variety of colors and styles, and they will keep your toddler warm during colder weather. You just want to make sure they are the footless style of tights.
Hair Considerations For A Toddler Gymnast
Hair can be a big distraction during gymnastics, so it’s important to keep it under control. You can tie it back in a bun or use a headband to keep it out of their face.
Soft, stretchy headbands, scrunchies and hair ties all work great for this.

What Should A Toddler Boy Wear To Gymnastics?
Toddler boys need comfortable, functional clothes.
Of course a leotard is an option for them as well.
Another good example is a t-shirt or tank top with shorts. Be sure that the clothing has no buttons, zippers, or snaps for safety.

Do You Need To Wear Shoes to Gymnastics?
Generally speaking, your child will not need to wear shoes while practicing gymnastics. Wearing shoes or socks can cause problems with slipping and falling.
On the way to and from class, my toddler wears easy slip-on shoes such as Crocs. This way she is not barefoot while walking around the entire gym and it’s easy for her to slip them on and off when her class starts and ends.
It is also recommended that you check with your gym about their specific dress code.
What Else Should You Bring To Gymnastics Class?
You may also want to bring a towel or wipes so your child can clean up if they get messy. Finally, bring a snack or drink for your toddler.
Grab a water bottle and packable snack bag for your busy gymnast and you’ll be all set!

Dress your toddler in comfortable clothing that will allow them to move freely. Make sure they have proper shoes and accessories. And most importantly, have fun!
