How To Wear Long Skirts Without Looking Frumpy
If you’re looking for something that combines comfort and style at the same time, the long skirt is your go to. A maxi dress is fine and works well for this too, but if you’d like to mix and match separates, a long skirt is your best bet. If you think that long skirts are for formal events only, let me show you how to wear long skirts casually.
Picking out a skirt is the easy part! There are so many options available and we will definitely get into that later. What stumps most people is the “What kind of tops to wear with long skirts?” question. This is the key to making your long skirt outfit chic and not frumpy is all in the top in my opinion.
Option # 1 Tank top
You can always wear your long skirt with with tank top, this is the easiest option. Depending on the type of long skirt you are wearing, you can choose a plain tank top or one with details. Tuck it into your skirt for a flattering look.
Option #2 Crop Top
I know, I know! You’re thinking, “Crop top?! Is she crazy?” Before you completely rule out this option, consider that you can pair a cropped top with a high waisted maxi skirt and you’ll be just fine. Some crop tops come with tie fronts which allows you to hide any stomach areas you may be concerned about.
- Tie Front Crop Top
- T-Shirt Crop Top
- Striped Twist Knot Pocket Crop Top
- Wave Hem Graffiti Print Crop Top
If you’re still apprehensive about wearing a crop top, I have one word for you: vacation. Try the look out when you take a trip during the summer. I have no doubt that you’ll look fabulous but I completely understand that it can be intimidating to have your stomach out. Just remember that your body gave you your kids, and thats amazing in it self.

Option # 3: Sleeved Shirt
You can also opt for a sleeved shirt with your casual maxi shirt. These are a couple of my favorite sleeved shirt selections. I am partial to a good chambray shirt. I truly believe a chambray shirt is a neutral, it goes with everything!
- Roll Sleeve Button Down Denim Chambray Shirt
- Tassel Trim T-Shirt
- V Neck Blouse
- Rolled Sleeve Knotted Front Blouse
Option #4 Off The Shoulder Shirt
Wearing an off the shoulder shirt with your long skirt is another styling option to consider. Since the skirt is long, you can get away with a little skin (shoulder) showing up top.
- Off The Shoulder Knot Sleeve
- Loose Off The Shoulder Top
- Laser Cut Scalloped Hem Off The Shoulder Top
- V Back Off The Shoulder Top
