Tell me the last time you had a spa day or took some time to indulge yourself. If you cant remember, don’t feel too bad! Life as mom gets super busy. I’m going to tell you how to fit a self care routine into your schedule even if you have limited time to spare daily.
Why is Self Care So Important?
I started this whole blog, The Glam Mommy, because I am a mom who still enjoys all things beauty and style. Embracing motherhood often makes you feel as if there’s little time to love the things you did before.
You spend a lot of your day putting your family first because thats what you signed up to do. What about you though? Self care is not selfish.
Moms of all ages and stages need time for themselves. Taking a break to recharge and and renew yourself is absolutely essential to your well being. Self care looks different for every mom and depending on how old your child is.
During the newborn and baby stage, self care might just look like you eating and showering. As your children get older and more independent you may be able to get some time time away or during a breaks as their schedule regulates.
I am huge fan of beauty routines as a form of self care. A self care routine does not have to be complicated. Self care is anything that makes you feel good, happy to be alive, refreshed and grateful. That activity is self care, no matter how long it takes. If you’re reading this, like “What beauty routine?”, take what I’m going to say into consideration.
Let’s be honest, glam is just not happening everyday when you’re a busy mama. Think about glam as more of a mindset. With this approach, you’ll learn to accept yourself and present the best version of you!
Think about that feeling when you get all dolled up. You feel your best, you feel beautiful and fabulous!
Don’t you want to feel that wonderful daily, or at the least more than just on special occasions?
How Do I Make Time For A Self Care Routine?
Part of the reason that I enjoy using a beauty routine for self care is because it can be done in as little as 5 minutes, if thats all you have! Here are my suggestions for creating a self care routine that recharges you and gives you the glow from the inside out.
Maybe you can’t find a reliable sitter or childcare is just not in your budget. Remember what I said earlier about rethinking how you view self-care? The suggestions I’ve included don’t require a sitter!
One day your self care activities may be done outside of the home or away from the kids for an extended period of time. Until then, work with whatever unique situation you have and get creative.

Self Care List
These are some ideas for you to use based on how much time you can spare in your day.
5 Minutes or Less
Drink Water: Motherhood can be a coffee fueled lifestyle, but water is a healthy beauty boost. It makes your skin glow, nails stronger, clears acne and reduces hair loss! Drink up mama!
Lip Care: L’Occitane is known for their super rich, moisturizing hand creams and balms. Did you know they have a Delicious Multi-Balm? This 3-in-1 Delicious Multi-Balm can be used as a primer to prep the lips, as a balm to soften the lips and even as a overnight lip mask. It takes a few seconds to apply and your lips will thank you for it all day!
Want to take it a step further? The Fruity Perfecting Balm moisturizes the lips AND changes colors based on YOUR skin’s PH. Perfect for those days when you need to look like you tried or for no make up look that we all know requires some sort of makeup. *wink, wink*
For a pop of color and moisture, try the Fruity Lipstick. I have the shade Red-Y To Play and I would recommend it for daily use. If red isn’t your thing there are 8 shades total, you might find one to suit you.
Wearing lip balm or lipstick is an instant pick me for the rest of your face!
10 Minutes or Less
Exfoliate in the shower: Most of the time, you’re taking a shower over a bath because its quicker. Multitask while you’re in there enjoying the suds. Use an in shower exfoliator such as a body scrub, body gloves or body brush.
Exfoliation feels like heaven under warm running water and you’ll emerge smoother and softer. This is my all time favorite drugstore shower exfoliator thats affordable and smells great!
Indulge in a face mask: Put on a favorite sheet mask and give yourself a time out! This can be done in as little as 15 minutes. Try to relax and catch your breath while you let the mask do its magic. You’ll emerge from this break feeling and looking refreshed!
Check out the Purifying Mask from L’Occitane for gentle exfoliation that will leave your skin with a renewed glow! It’s enriched with thyme which is known for its antibacterial and anti-fungal properties to help clear any skin imperfections. Make sure you follow up with a moisturizer! Sometimes postpartum skin changes can leave you feeling dry.
30 Minutes to One Hour
Meditate while you mani: Don’t worry if you don’t have time to go to the salon, a DIY lacquer session can be great self nourishment. Tip: Use a super fast drying top coat so you don’t have to wait so long for your nails to dry.
Hint: This one is seriously fast! I’ve used it during an unexpectedly short nap that my LO one woke up from and my nails weren’t smudged!
Attempt a new hairstyle: Between kids, work and home life, you’ve been wearing the same go to hair style for months, maybe even years. It’s time to switch it up. Try a new do!
Tip: Need inspiration? Check YouTube for some fun tutorials and follow along.
